At SJB, courageous advocacy is more than a concept—it is lived out daily and rooted in our school's value of life in all it's fullness. We empower our pupils to be informed, to speak out, and to take meaningful action when they encounter injustice. This begins in our own community, where we support East to West who uplift and support vulnerable children in Surrey. Alongside this, it extends to the global stage through our partnership with Hope Health Action who provide life-saving health and disability care around the world.
By engaging with these causes, our children develop a deep sense of empathy, resilience, and moral purpose. Whether raising awareness, fundraising, or simply offering kindness, our pupils learn that standing up for others—especially those whose voices may go unheard—requires both courage and compassion. Through this, they become true agents of change, transforming not only the lives of others, but also shaping their own character and understanding of the world.
Year 5 Enterprise Day - July 2025
Year 5 pupils amazed us all during their fantastic Business Enterprise Day! Each group designed and ran their own stall, selling everything from tasty food and drinks to creative artwork and fun games with prizes. The children worked extremely hard in the hope to fundraise and support our chosen charities. Overall, they raised over £700 for East to West and Hope Health Action.
School Council Visit to the East to West headquarters - June 2025
Our School Council had the privilege of visiting the headquarters of our local charity, East to West, in Egham along with Mrs Goddard, Mr Corke and Mr Blizzard, one our our school Governors. We received a warm welcome and heard from the team about the charity’s vision of “bringing hope to young lives” and what this looks like, as they work across Surrey in schools, hospitals and GP surgeries. The team had set up opportunities for the children to see what is involved in working in such an organisation. They were able to contribute to creating a social media post, design posters to communicate the charity’s impact, learn about budgeting, and how money goes in and out from the charity and generating fundraising ideas that could be used in school. We hope this trip will help to further deepen our links with this fantastic charity in the future!

Hope Health Action visit from Carwyn Hill - May 2025
We were fortunate enough to have Carwyn Hill, the Chief Executive of Hope, Health Action, join our International Week church service at the end of May. Carwyn spoke of how he helped create HHA in response to the "Make Poverty History" campaign twenty years ago and how it has evolved to now work in Haiti, South Sudan and Uganda. The children got to see some photos of Amazing Grace School, where our £3000+ donations at Christmas has helped fund a Special Needs teacher for the school. We hope to deepen and further our relationship with HHA as we move into the future.
